2016 Fringe World Congress Opening Addresses

The Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals (CAFF) and the St-Ambroise Montreal FRINGE Festival will officially welcome delegates of the 2016 Fringe World Congress. Opening addresses will include Shona McCarthy, the Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, and David Jordan, Executive Director of the Vancouver Fringe and President of CAFF, followed by a keynote address by Kahlil Ashanti.

This session will explore ways of managing growth and shifting expectations without losing your festival’s core values. The first half will look at how the world of Fringe has changed and what “fringe” means today. The second half will look at strategies for maintaining your “Fringiness” in a changing world.

The Fringe World Fair is a trade fair in reverse where artists from Montreal and artist invitees from CINARS will meet with you – International Fringe Representatives – to learn about Fringe performance and touring opportunities around the world. This informal, speed dating-like atmosphere will be a unique and invaluable event for artists to connect with Congress representatives. To round off the event from 19.00-20.00 the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society will host a session specifically focussing on how to present work at the world’s largest arts festival.
